A logo isn't a brand

"A logo is not a brand" is one of many good thoughts in the Brand Gap book by Marty Neumeier that I am currently reading. A great look at bridging the gap between business strategy and design.



But that being said, I really like that alphabet poster made up from brand symbols and letters in my office.

In the desert

After I returned from my guerrilla marketing gig trip to Nashville, I noticed that I had overlooked an email from Ryan Bowd a few days ago. He had captured a "rarely smiling" image of me in the desert just outside of Abu Dhabi, UAE during an event organized by the Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority, the evening before the inaugural Abu Dhabi Triathlon. Thank you Ryan.

More orange

The best part of my recent unplanned Paris layover was an endless supply of Orangina. Mmmm, Orangina.

Being at home is nice

After several weeks of fairly heavy traveling, it is very nice to have some quality time at home. Amy and I had a nice brunch at Rana Loca this morning and then went on a nice walk with Pete through the neighborhood. Now we are just relaxing at home for a bit. So nice. Hmmm, maybe I can use the word nice a few more times. :-)

Soda stuff

While I was in Abu Dhabi I encountered the orange soda Mirinda in various places and it reminded my of my childhood where we often got to drink Mirinda. Why though is Orange soda great everywhere but in the USA? Too much corn crap?

Happy Birthday

Oh so tired

A little walk to the mailbox this morning completely wore out our little Pete. I guess we have to him on a more regular workout schedule, because the mailbox isn't very far from our house.

Ready for Abu Dhabi

Finally got a moto lid so I guess I am ready for my photo gig in Abu Dhabi. This though will be the last time that this helmet will be plain white. Upon my return from Abu Dhabi, Darin Wheeler of 2wheelercustoms will give it a custom slowtwitch face lift.

Ready for spring

We are all ready for the spring and despite the crappy day yesterday, all is shiny and new today. The MCoupe is a bit dirty from the rain yesterday, but it is all good. It'll get really dirty when driven. :-)

Finally back together

Amy and I have been apart for 2 weeks and it was great to finally see eachother again. Here she is sporting the new hat I brought her from Germany.

Gold

I love bob sledding and Germany has historically done well in the sport. Today was no exception and Germany 1 and Germany 2 captured Gold and Silver. For Andre Lange, the pilot of Germany 1 this is already his 4th Olympic Gold medal.

Car wash

The weather was super nice today and I gave the car and the front yard some much needed water love. The car though also got a bit of soap and sponge action.

More Schwaebische Fasnet

The days before Ash Wednesday are very crazy in this part of Germany and every town here has a unique set of costume groups who take part in parades that take place all over the Southwest of Germany. This is known as Schwaebische Allemannische Fasnet, and here a few images from one such parade in Bad Saulgau on Fat Tuesday morning.

Rottweiler Narrensprung

On Monday I took part in the very traditional and historic Rottweiler Narrensprung. It is truly an amazing experience and I would highly recommend for people to check it out one year. But beware, it might be very cold.

Fun in the snow

Today I drove to Pfullingen to visit Matze and Jutta and their now 2 year old son Oscar. Matze and I met in Hawaii at a post race Ironman World Championships party almost 10 years ago and have been friends since.

The Hohenfels castle is on the way to Pfullingen and is quite an impressive place. It looks very cool with all the snow around it.

One of us has a top 20 in Hawaii, and not in a dream as I.
