In the books

The January 2010 ARTpARTy in Winston-Salem is in the books and we had a great turnout despite the somewhat crappy weather conditions. We actually had about 30 people here and 21 pieces of art. That may have been a record number of art works in the history of our 12 ARTpARTies. At this point though I must say that I botched the photography during the event, and that included taking no photo of Nancy Tuohy and her art work and no photo of Amy and I. :-(

Laura came to our ARTpARTy despite having other plans

Stacy painted glass

Her husband Rick worked with pottery

The very cool painting of Laura

Jessica created a nice set of cards

Our friend Jenni created 2 mirrors that were separate artworks

Our kitchen cabinet designer Mara painted this artwork

The photography of Phoebe and Mark

Kim crafted a pillow

Our next door neighbor Mary decorated this very cute box

Mike worked with metal and Amy and I are now the proud owners of this artwork

The black and white photography of Luke and Melissa

First time ARTpARTy visitors Sandy and Eric worked in photography

Julia and Brian were "expressing" themselves, and this was also their first ARTpARTy

Craig finished his architectural artwork late and came a bit later than his wife Kim

The photo of Page was popular in the auction

Caroline knitted a very cool hat and her husband Matt playfully shows what he contributed

My "pencil" artwork when it was finished about a week ago

I am glad Nancy also took a picture of her artwork prior to the party

It is done

So the art piece for tonight's ARTpARTy is done and I am in the situation where I want to keep it for myself. But this time it'll be going to someone else. The #2 pencils in the blue mug are numbered 1-24 and will be used to decide in which order people get to pick the artwork to take home. Now here is hoping the weather doesn't completely screw us. Here is a link to the last ARTpARTy we had here.

Pete looks like he is very comfortably sleeping.

ARTpARTy teaser

In a few days we are hosting another ARTpARTy and yesterday I finished my project for the party. Can't of course reveal the whole artwork yet but here is a little teaser.

How about that Google result

When you currently Google the term "guerrilla marketing," the Guerrilla Marketing defined blog of Guerrilla Communication comes up in 4th position out of 866,000 results. Sweet!

Exit row

Why would they let this man possibly let block the exit? That makes no sense at all.

Fun in Miami Beach

Last week we spent a few days in South Beach, Florida, but it wasn't a vacation. Amy had a conference and I was busy with work. The weather was not very nice and the temperatures were unusually cold. Oh well.

The sea was very angry that day my friend

This is not the South Beach that we expected

The first night we ate at the Cuban restaurant Yuka

We stayed at the Loews hotel that was recently restored

This photo really doesn't do the Loews hotel any justice

Amy and her friends Joy and Lindsey from Erlanger in Chattanooga took a brief conference break

My buddy Eric Buck picked me up in front of Loews

Eric is a man on a mission when he is driving

Nice beach, but very cold temperatures

Eric explaining artificial coral growths at his place of work

The pier of Eric's work place reminded my of the TV show Flipper

The lizards seem to enjoy the cold temps even less than we did

Now that is a Miami Vice view, but for the overcast skies

After visiting Eric's place in Key Biscayne we headed back towards South Beach

There were quite a few cruise ships anchored in Miami

The huge Liberty of the Seas was also in Miami

Eric and I had some German food at the Hofbraeuhaus in South Beach

Amy and I grabbed lunch the next day on Lincoln Ave in South Beach, but outside of that it was mostly work and no play.

How about a tattoo?

Are you sure? Really sure? Very cool ad for an Austin, TX tattoo shop by Rhett&Link. Those guys are actually neighbors of sorts here in North Carolina.

Yummy dinner tonight

We have been trying to have more food variety during the week versus just having pasta and pizza, and tonight on the menu we had broiled salmon and lentils. It was quite good and reasonably healthy.

Clean air in NC

No more smoking in restaurants in North Carolina, it is the law now. I thought that day would never come.

How about some Football?

I met Gerre Goard more than 20 years ago when I lived in Narberth, Pa and I had not seen him for over 18 years until the summer of 2009 when he found me on facebook and realized I only live an hour away. Gerre works for Norfolk Southern and when one of his customers bailed on him late for a spot in their Carolina Panthers hospitality suite, he called me and I got to fill in. :-)

Here are some pics from the day.

About to go in

Welcome to the Panthers

The stadium was still pretty empty when we got there

The view isn't so bad from here and the temperature is alright

These guys were already sitting in the cold 1.5 hours before the game

The players are getting on the field

Intently focused on the game

Host Gerre Goard in front of the spread

Over 60,000 spectators braved the cold

The Panthers won today and closed out their season 8-8
